Why is every company a recruitment company?

In his book, Diary of a CEO, Steven Bartlett says all companies are essentially recruitment companies.

  • His point being, it isn’t for the founder to work out the ‘how’ to get things done that will help your company take off and fly, but the ‘who’ that will make it happen for you.

I love this quote in his book from Steve Jobs, that not enough founders and CEOs live by:

‘I consider the most important job of someone like myself as recruiting…I’ve built a lot of my success off finding those truly gifted people and not settling for B and C players, but really going for the A players.

It doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.’

So true.

  • It’s always a leap when my clients bring their first A-Team player on board. They worry about the cost, they’re not sure if it’s a leap too far, they feel a little threatened bringing on board someone with A-level experience.

But once they do that, and the return on investment is obvious, they don’t look back. It just takes a while to make the leap.

  • Do not be scared to employ an A-Team who can tell you what to do and take care of the ‘how’ that will get you there. An A-Team will change your business and your life.
